Installing the drive backplane

Prerequisites

Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
  • NOTE: The procedure to install the backplane is similar for all backplane configurations.

Steps

  1. Connect the SAS, SATA, or NVME cable to the backplane.
  2. Use the hooks on the system chassis as guides to align the slots on the backplane with the guides on the system.
  3. Insert the backplane into the guides and lower the backplane until the blue release tabs snap into place securing the backplane.

Next steps

  1. Reconnect the VGA cable to the system board.
  2. If disconnected, reconnect the optical drive power and signal cables to the drive.
  3. Reconnect all the disconnected cables to the backplane. For more information, see Cable routing
  4. Reinstall the all the removed drives, into their original slots. For more information, see Installing a drive carrier .
  5. If applicable, install the backplane cover. For more information, see Installing the backplane cover .
  6. Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system .
